Cosmetic Procedures > Tattoo Removal
Tattoo removal is becoming more popular as people get more unwanted tattoos. The ability to remove tattoos is still a challenge to laser surgeons. Improvements are almost always seen, but complete eradication can be difficult in some cases.
There are many variables that dictate the differences in response from person to person: age of the tattoo, immunologic ability of the client, depth of the pigment, quantity of the pigment, color of the pigment, and the substances used in the ink. Professional tattoos generally require six to twelve monthly treatments, while homemade tattoos require five to six monthly treatments to remove.
Topical or local anesthesia is used for a more comfortable procedure. The treated areas might scab but will heal within seven days in most cases. You can usually return to normal activity the next day, but the area of treatment must stay protected from the sun during its healing phase.
